Derby Trans: building Hungary’s leading refrigerated and ADR fleet through a 12-year Eurowag partnership

From two people and one 7.5-tonne vehicle in 1996, Derby Trans has grown to 150+ vehicles and €65.7m revenue, becoming one of Hungary’s largest refrigerated and ADR fleet carriers. Founder László Szvitek’s philosophy of slow, methodical growth — combined with a 12-year Eurowag partnership for fuel, tolls, and telematics — has built a company delivering near-100% cargo security across 1,300-kilometer European routes.

Market context

Hungary’s logistics market requires continuous adaptation. Toll increases, fuel volatility, and sustainability imperatives create pressure across the value chain. Derby Trans generates 90% of revenue from international clients, where clean vehicles, impeccable technical condition, on-time delivery, and trained personnel are the differentiators. Punctuality on a 1,300-km Frankfurt–Barcelona route means a maximum one-hour delay.

Operational challenge

Szvitek describes deliberate growth:

“I’m a bit of a safety player, I don’t believe in rapid growth.”

The company pivoted from tarpaulin to refrigerated transport after the 2008 crisis, then added ADR capability. GPS and panic buttons on trailers ensure cargo security. Subcontractors help achieve 96–97% occupancy and smooth seasonal fluctuations.

Eurowag’s role

Eurowag has been Derby Trans’s partner for 12 years. Szvitek:

“Eurowag’s solutions are a significant help in ensuring that our processes are efficient. Toll and fuel card services take a massive administrative burden off our shoulders and speed up international transport organization.”

Webeye security, GPS tracking, and door sensors are essential for high-value and temperature-sensitive goods — nearly 100% of shipments. These solutions have reduced misuse to virtually zero.

Measurable impact

The fleet exceeds 150 vehicles with 96–97% occupancy rates. HVO is offered to all customers, though only ~2 out of 10 accept the 3–5% premium. Telematics solutions provide operational and client value through cargo safety systems.

Strategic outlook

Szvitek sees AI’s inevitability but maintains the human element is essential:

“There will always be a human element. I think it can be of great help in transport management, but not everything should be automated.”

The company remains committed to fleet rejuvenation, alternative fuels, and telematics optimization.
