Eurowag contributes to key industry discussions at CORTE meeting

Eurowag, as a member of CORTE, took part in the latest meeting of the organisation in Brussels, represented by Małgorzata Pander and Mateusz Włoch. The discussions brought together industry experts and policymakers to address upcoming regulatory and operational challenges in road transport.

One of the most impactful topics discussed was the extension of regulatory requirements to light commercial vehicles (LCVs) from 1 July 2026. The changes are expected to significantly affect transport operators, introducing new compliance obligations and operational adjustments. Practical interpretations are already emerging at national level – for example in Germany, where the use of tachographs becomes mandatory for light commercial vehicles such as vans if the device is installed in the vehicle.

The agenda also covered international developments presented by European Commission representative Romain Durand, including ongoing efforts to align the AETR agreement with the EU Mobility Package provisions, such as extending certain social rules to LCVs, requirements related to drivers’ return, and restrictions on taking regular weekly rest in the cabin. Discussions reflected differing positions among non-EU countries and ongoing work on smart tachograph specifications within the Smart Tachograph Expert Group, in which Eurowag is actively involved.

Discussions also pointed to persistent gaps in the rollout of the ERRU system, with incomplete data exchange between member states still limiting its effectiveness. In parallel, the transition to electric heavy goods vehicles continues to face structural challenges, most notably the insufficient number of dedicated charging stations across the EU – currently estimated at around 143 facilities dedicated to HGVs.

Eurowag’s involvement in CORTE reflects its commitment to staying at the forefront of regulatory developments and contributing practical expertise to industry dialogue, helping translate complex changes into real-world solutions for transport operators.
