The Eurowag Office with a new feature: a virtual fuel card allows drivers to refuel multiple vehicles with just one card

Eurowag has introduced a virtual fuel card as a part of their digital platform Eurowag Office. This move responds to the growing digitalisation of road transport and the need for more flexible fleet management. The new solution will enable transport companies to manage refuelling without the need for physical plastic cards and will significantly simplify the administration of both dispatchers and drivers.

The Eurowag Office with a new feature: a virtual fuel card allows drivers to refuel multiple vehicles with just one card

The virtual card operates directly within the Eurowag Office mobile app and Eurowag Navigation, unlike a traditional plastic card, is not permanently linked to a single specific vehicle. Drivers can therefore easily switch between vehicles directly within the app without having to use several different cards.

In practice, a single driver often switches between multiple vehicles these days. This means not only a higher number of physical cards, but also more complex administration and higher costs. The virtual card eliminates this problem and brings significantly simpler and more flexible refuelling management,

says Jiří Petrák, Head of Payment Product at Eurowag.

Less plastic, less admin

Until now, Eurowag customers have had two options. The first option is a traditional fuel card linked to the vehicle’s registration number. This card can also be virtualised, but always on the condition that a physical plastic card is held. This model allows for detailed refuelling records or simpler tax refunds, but at the same time involves greater administrative complexity and fees associated with issuing or managing the cards. The second option is a universal card that is not tied to a specific vehicle. It offers greater flexibility, but does not provide precise vehicle identification when refuelling, which complicates certain accounting or tax processes.

The new virtual card combines the advantages of both solutions. It is linked to a specific user, not a vehicle, but at the same time allows refuelling to be assigned to a specific registration number. The driver can therefore use a single card for multiple vehicles or, conversely, use multiple cards, choosing from them in Eurowag Office. The virtual card can be ordered and activated entirely digitally within the Eurowag Office environment; it is free of charge and available immediately upon creation. This means companies no longer have to wait for the production and delivery of a physical card.

The virtual card will be available across Europe

The virtual fuel card will be launched for all customers in Eurowag Office platform. The virtual card will operate within the acceptance network supporting Eurowag Pay, which currently includes more than 3,000 petrol stations and truck parks across Europe. It can only be used to pay for fuel, not for additional services such as car washes or the purchase of other goods.

Greater security and lower costs

The virtual card offers the same security standards as a physical card, whilst adding further digital security features. Dispatchers can set limits and authorisations, and thanks to the digital environment, they have better control over card usage. Another advantage is the lower risk of loss or misuse. A driver may lose or forget a physical card, whereas a virtual card is accessible directly within the mobile app. As Jiří Petrák says:

“Unfortunately, drivers often keep their physical card on the dashboard, and have even written their PIN on it. This solution therefore guarantees that the card and a PIN code can't be stolen or lost.”
