Tachographs will be mandatory for vehicles of 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes. Eurowag Office offers an automated digital solution

Prague, 1 June 2026 – New European legislation brings a fundamental change for thousands of transport operators. From 1 July 2026, companies operating vehicles of 2.5 - 3.5 tonnes which cross borders will be required to have a so-called second-generation smart tachograph, while drivers must be compliant with work-time rules. The change stems from the European Mobility Package I and is regulated by EU Regulation 2020/1054. Eurowag is ready to provide carriers with its digital tachographs and other digital tools that are becoming essential for transport companies' day-to-day operations.

However, compliance with the legislation does not simply mean installing the device. The obligations are more comprehensive and apply to both drivers and employers. Van drivers, just like lorry drivers, must comply with the rules on driving times, breaks and rest periods in accordance with Regulation No 561/2006. They must also use a digital driver card and be able to present the driver’s activity records during the road inspection. Authorities are entitled to check records covering the last 56 days. Employers must regularly download data from the tachographs, store this data securely, analyse the records and evaluate drivers’ performance.

And how can Eurowag help transport companies? The new generation of smart tachographs is fundamentally changing the way transport operators handle data, inspections and day-to-day operations. What was originally a recording device is becoming a key source of data for compliance, route management and payroll administration. Eurowag is responding to this shift with a comprehensive solution that enables data from tachographs to be automatically downloaded, evaluated and utilised not only to meet legislative obligations, but also for more efficient fleet management. It thus helps transport operators manage growing regulatory demands without unnecessary administrative burdens and transforms a mandatory compliance tool into a practical means of optimising their business.

Furthermore, Eurowag’s solution is fully automated.

“Data is downloaded  automatically and remotely, without manual depot connection. The tachograph data helps ensure compliance with working hours, eliminates the stress associated with uncertainty regarding the remaining driving limit, and facilitates the fulfilment of orders according to plan,”

says Eurowag’s Product Manager Łukasz Maśka.

The new generation of tachographs is also a source of key data for transport planning optimisation aiming to utilise maximum capacity of available work time and to reduce unnecessary rest time. .

Digital tachographs are part of Eurowag Office, which creates an integrated ecosystem where all operational data is connected in one place. Information from the tachograph is fed into the working time analysis system, which can  support planning, working-time checks and fleet-utilisation decisions, plan further jobs or predict fleet utilisation. In this way, the carrier maintains full compliance with regulations and gains a competitive advantage; it shortens response times to changes, optimises costs and increases the profitability of transport operations.
