What is a toll portal?
A toll gantry is a special structure placed above roads to automatically collect tolls from vehicles using the road. Gantries are equipped with vehicle detection and identification technologies, such as cameras, sensors, and RFID readers.
How does a toll gantry work?
When a vehicle passes through a toll gantry, the system (e.g. E-TOLL) identifies the vehicle (for example, using the license plate or a toll device installed in the vehicle) and automatically charges the toll for the road section used.
As a result, vehicles no longer need to stop at toll booths to make a payment, which improves traffic flow and reduces congestion.
A toll collection point can also be used for traffic monitoring, statistical data collection, and compliance checks with road regulations.
