Ban on truck overtaking

What is the truck traffic ban?

The truck traffic ban is a regulation that defines when heavy goods vehicles are not allowed to drive on roads in Poland and other European countries. In Poland, this ban is governed by the Regulation of the Minister of Transport of July 31, 2007, on periodic restrictions and bans on the movement of certain vehicles on roads.

Drivers can be fined up to 500 PLN on the spot (up to double that in administrative proceedings) for driving during restricted hours.

Truck movement restrictions apply across Europe, though specific days and times vary by country. It’s important for international hauliers to check the local regulations before crossing borders.

Truck driving ban – exceptions

In Poland, exemptions from the truck driving ban can be granted in special cases, such as:

  • protecting public health and life,
  • preventing environmental hazards,
  • ensuring continuity of essential services like electricity, water, and gas.

To obtain an exemption, a request must be submitted to the appropriate Voivodeship Office or the Chief Inspectorate of Road Transport.
