Toll payments via the EVA on-board unit now cover eleven European countries. This makes it easier for hauliers to travel across Europe, reduces admin, and provides access to all tolled roads under the EETS framework. With route planning based on emissions, EVA can also support more sustainable transport.
International hauliers can now pay tolls in Bulgaria and Switzerland using a single on-board unit. Thanks to this expansion under the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS), Eurowag’s EVA now covers eleven European countries. Customers are already using the new coverage on the road. It means simpler journeys across borders, less paperwork, and smarter route planning, even with emissions in mind.
The EVA on-board unit now works in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, and, newly, in Bulgaria and Switzerland. It also works on selected bridges and tunnels, including the Storebælt Bridge and the Liefkenshoek Tunnel in Belgium.
A good example is transit through the Alps via the Gotthard Tunnel, one of the busiest freight corridors in Europe. A haulier travelling from Hungary to Spain can now pass through Austria and Switzerland with a single device, with no need to stop or switch equipment. Toll payments are handled automatically, so the journey continues smoothly across borders.
This service is ideal for international transport companies regularly crossing European borders. With one EVA device, there’s no need to install and manage multiple units for different countries. All toll data and payments are managed in one place, whether for Switzerland, Bulgaria, or any of the eleven supported countries.
“Our customers expect maximum efficiency – not just on the road, but in their back office too. EVA and its growing EETS coverage help them save time and money,” says Ivana Lang, Director of Toll at Eurowag.
EVA was thoroughly tested before launching in the new countries. It’s already in use on Alpine routes and has proven reliable even in more demanding terrain. Getting started is simple. Eurowag delivers the unit pre-configured, with no need to buy it – customers just rent it.
Activating new countries is easy and can often be done online in just a few hours. Existing customers can add countries themselves via the portal. Local teams are also available in each country to support setup and offer technical help where needed.
Alongside its expanded EETS coverage, Eurowag also offers toll payments in Denmark via a mobile app, aligned with the country’s new distance-based toll system.
EVA offers more than toll services. It provides fleet managers with access to location data, route planning tools, and the option to set alerts for selected events. It also includes the FuelGuard feature, which compares vehicle location with the place a fuel card is used, helping spot potential misuse.
Dispatchers can also use online tools to plan routes based on cost and emissions. The system factors in vehicle weight and emissions class, local toll rates, and environmental zones. Users can use CO₂ calculators to compare route options by carbon footprint and save costs in countries with emissions-based tolls.
