Toll in Poland relates to each vehicle with an overall weight higher than 3.5 tonnes. The general toll system in Poland is based on the short-range wireless communication technology, and is usually paid using the viaBOX On-board unit , except for Polish Morowarways A1, A2 and A4. For ViaToll operated high ways, as soon as the vehicle passes through the toll gate, the respective fee for using the fee-paying segment is deducted. The actual process of billing the amount takes place completely automatically without any need to slow down or stop the vehicle.

Our customers also benefit from paying directly by Eurowag Card for the motorways A1 and A2, as well as an opportunity to pay for A4 motorway in Poland using an interoperable OBU from Telepass.

The official website of the toll system operator can be found on  www.viatoll.pl

ViaToll website offers a tool called toll calculator, which enables calculation of the amount of toll charge for a journey on a specific route. Once the user has entered the locations of the beginning and the end of the journey as well as vehicle classification, the Toll calculator allows the user to calculate, on the basis of the provided data, the shortest route (the shortest journey time on the toll road network), an estimated journey time and an expected toll charge for the use of toll road sections.

F.A.Q.

◉ What vehicles are exempt from the toll?

Vehicles exempt from tolls are for example military vehicles, customs vehicles, border guards and police.

◉ How can I order an on-board unit?

via Eurowag client zone

◉ How is an OBU installed?

Self installation on windscreen

◉ What criteria are used to calculate the toll in Poland?

Road class, maximum permissible weight and emission class.

◉ Is there a table of the current prices?
◉ How much is the security deposit per OBU?

◉ Are checks carried out? What happens if they find a vehicle without an OBU?

TOLL electronic toll collection includes an enforcement system that verifies whether a vehicle is subject to toll and, if so, whether the toll payment process has been followed correctly. The Road Transport Inspectorate is authorized to control vehicles.

Mobile and portable enforcement units are equipped with devices that are able to check whether vehicles have installed the viaBOX device, whether they are properly installed and in addition whether a toll has been collected. In the case of any irregularities, such information is automatically generated along with a photo of the vehicle and sent to the Control Centre. The employees of the Control Centre will verify this information. If a breach of the obligation to pay the toll is confirmed the information will be sent to the Mobile Enforcement Unit which will be supported by the inspectors of the Road Transport Inspectorate. Their task is to stop the offending vehicle, draw up an inspection report and initiate administrative proceedings to enforce an administrative penalty for failure to pay the toll electronically. If the vehicle is registered abroad the inspectors have the right to stop the vehicle until the penalty is paid.

◉ What should I do when my OBU is not functioning?

A non-functional or damaged viaBOX can be exchanged at any Distribution or Contact Point.

◉ How can I return the OBU?

The customer returns the units at contact points or at border distribution points. They can also be returned by mail.

In case of returning all units it is also necessary to terminate the contracts using the form "Termination of the Road User Contract" (available on the Viatoll website). The original version together with returned units is submitted by the client at the point of sale or returned by mail to Viatoll.

◉ What vehicles are subject to toll charges?

The toll in Poland applies to vehicles with more than 3.5 tons maximum permissible weight and to buses with more than 9 seats.
