The future of cars belongs to hydrogen, not electric cars. This information stems from an extensive survey by international consultancy firm KPMG conducted among almost a thousand executive managers from 42 countries.
In their view, we are poised to see a surge in the development of electro-mobility in the coming years, though the electric powered boom won’t be as big as previously thought. On top of this, 62 % of managers also believe that batteries will not succeed as the power source of the future due to inadequate infrastructure.
Conversely 78 % of automotive industry managers predict a promising future for hydrogen. They believe that the suitable existing infrastructure and short timeframe needed to fill up a tank make hydrogen-powered vehicles a far more viable option.
The managers weren’t so optimistic about the future of diesel engines – at least not in the passenger car segment. For 53 % of those surveyed, the diesel engine is an out-dated technology. “It looks like the impact Dieselgate had on the automotive industry has been crucial,” reveals Jan Linhart, CZ KPMG partner responsible for the automotive sector. When it comes to heavy goods vehicles, however, diesel will continue to play a key role.
